Almudena Hernández, singer and actress, was born 37 years ago in Lanzarote, and from a very young age she hummed the music of television commercials and began to feel the passion for music.

As a teenager she began to sing in front of an audience because until then "she was ashamed" and participated in musical festivals. Today, the singer has become one of the most recognizable voices in Lanzarote's music.

The artist's beginnings on stage began at events such as the Arrecife Festival, the Lanzarote Festival or at town festivals, where Hernández gained experience and further strengthened the idea of wanting to dedicate herself to music.

"At first I was more self-taught but in 2010 I went to study Dramatic Art in Tenerife and I started singing lessons with a teacher and I spent a couple of years working with her and then, in 2015, I did a casting for a show in Madrid and they took me. There I went to classes with a musical theater guy and since 2017 I haven't gone to singing lessons but I learned a lot in those years," she says.

Several years ago, the singer combined music with her work as an artistic gymnastics coach, but both things meant an excessive workload. "I realized that it was too much because I left teaching the girls with a tired throat because I had to shout and speak loudly, and then I went to sing at a hotel where they offered me a job," she recalls.

"I reached a point where I had so many days to sing that it wasn't compatible and, in addition, I earned more singing, so in the end I decided to focus on music and now I can say that I live from it," she explains.

Her most recent projects

A time that was a great boom that had an impact on the artist's career was the pandemic. "As a result of that, I published videos on social networks and they started calling me from several places such as the Noche de Taifas program, in which I had already been, and several other things came up, including two projects," she explains.

"One in Tenerife called Ocho Orillas of folk music made in the Canary Islands sharing the stage with singers such as Luis Morera or Chago Melián and in which I represent La Graciosa, and the other project with the Symphony Orchestra of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in which we were four girls from the islands and it was a tribute to diva singers of all eras," she clarifies.

In addition, the artist has even sung with Pastora Soler herself on an Antena 3 program. "I've always followed her a lot and for me singing with her was more than a dream," she says excitedly.

Publishing her own music

As for the upcoming projects that the singer has in mind, one of her clear objectives is to make her own music and offer the public her own unpublished songs. "My intention is to start creating my own things and I have little things there," she says.

One of the most reputable timple players in the Canary Islands, Benito Cabrera, has encouraged Hernández to take out what she has inside and compose her own songs. "He has told me that I have to do my own things, that I have many things to take out and that I have a lot of talent," she declares.

And the artist has some songs saved in the drawer that have been composed by colleagues in the profession such as Caminos de Fuego or Mararía, which have not yet seen the light but will see it soon.
