The D&M Awards organization has the honor to announce that the Lighthouse Award 2026 will be awarded to the Association of Oncohematological Families of Lanzarote (AFOL). This recognition is born with the vocation of distinguishing those entities and individuals who, through their dedication and commitment, become a reference and guide for Lanzarote society.

In this edition, the jury has unanimously decided that there is no institution that better embodies these values than AFOL. A necessary light in the island's healthcare The "Lighthouse" Award symbolizes safety, guidance, and hope in the midst of the storm. For the D&M Awards, AFOL's work in Lanzarote has been, for decades, the light that has guided hundreds of families through the complex process of oncological disease, especially in a context of insularity where the challenges are doubly demanding.

"The Lighthouse not only illuminates, but marks the way to a safe harbor. AFOL does exactly that: accompanies, protects and fights so that no patient in Lanzarote feels lost or helpless," have declared from the organization of the D&M Awards.

 

Reasons for the award

The jury has highlighted three fundamental pillars for the awarding of the "Faro" Award:

1. Direct Human Assistance: Their tireless work of psychological and social support to the patients of the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital.

2. Vindication of Rights: Its decisive role in the improvement of health infrastructures and oncological treatment on the island.

3. Social Reference: The capacity of AFOL to unite the population of Lanzarote around solidarity, prevention, and research.

The award ceremony will take place at the San Bartolomé Theater on Saturday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. where there will be artistic performances and the presence of award winners such as Nadia De Santiago, Helena Bianco or the comedian Kike Pérez, among others.. The attendance of AFOL's president, Carmen Arrocha, is expected, along with a representation of volunteers and families who are part of this great community.
