Faithful to the event and on the occasion of the Teguise festivities in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, the members of the popular music group Acatife celebrated their XXVI Festival on Friday night in the municipal tent of La Villa. In this edition, they awarded the 'Silver Volcano' award to the Arrecife Choirs and Dances Folk Group on the occasion of its 60th anniversary.
The festival began with the performance of the Attenya group, who came from Agüimes in Gran Canaria and was formed in 2012 only by women, who surprised the public with their staging and the variety of musical genres they performed. They took a tour of different South American countries, also including habaneras intermingled with some Spanish version themes. At the end of the group, whose aboriginal name means "Woman of song or Melody", a member of Acatife gave them a sculpture as a souvenir of their passage through the festival.
Secondly, the Ensamble Dos Orillas group, from Tenerife, performed. A formation founded in 2003 with the aim of uniting shores through music. Its five members, two men and three women, played their tuned instruments such as the timple, guitar, bass and percussion, together with very careful voices with which they easily managed to conquer the public, who applauded each of their songs, all of very varied genres, some of them fused such as the malagueña and the polka, to which they added other compositions as disparate as the zamba, the waltz or the tango. Acatife also gave them a sculpture as a souvenir.
Next, the hosts took the stage who, under the musical direction of Ito Hernández, chose their own compositions for the occasion, some of them already recorded in the different record works such as 'El Gallo de Caridad', 'Yaiza', 'Las Plañideras' or 'María Cruz', among others, taking a break in their performance to project a video where some historical reviews starring the Arrecife Choirs and Dances Folk Group were collected from its beginnings, which are now 60 years old.
Later, Santiago Torres de la Fe, director of Coros y Danzas Arrecife, took the stage to collect the highest distinction awarded by Acatife, its 'Silver Volcano', which was presented to him by its president, Carlos Hernández. Very excited, Santiago Torres addressed those present to thank them for such a high distinction. Immediately afterwards, the chords of the song 'Pechas del Chache' sounded, followed by the one entitled 'Se va mi Barco'. One more year, Acatife gave its best and received the loudest applause of the night for it.
