The trial for the landing of 600 kilos of hashish in Playa Quemada in 2014 was scheduled to start this Thursday, but it has finally been suspended. The Provincial Court of Las Palmas has adopted this decision at the request of one of the accused, who argued that the indictment imputes a criminal record that he does not have. Thus, it has been decided to postpone the hearing until this issue is clarified, when a new date will be set.

In the case, six people are accused of a crime against public health. The Prosecutor's Office is asking for six years in prison for four of them and six years and nine months for the other two, to which it adds the aggravating circumstance of recidivism, pointing out that they had previously been convicted of drug trafficking. One of them is the one who denies those records and has caused the suspension of the trial.

The Public Prosecutor's Office also asks that they be sentenced to pay a fine of 2,978,601 euros each, as well as that all the objects that were seized in the operation be confiscated, including a Valiant-type boat, a vehicle and a satellite telephone.

The events occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on October 25, 2014, when D.G.M. and I.G.M. arrived on the island by boat with the drugs. In total, 21 bundles were seized with a total weight of 633.61 kilograms, which according to the Prosecutor's Office “would have reached a value of 992,867 euros on the illicit market.”

In Playa Quemada, they were awaited by two other defendants, P.M.M. and J.J.C.C., who carried out the work of carrying the bundles of hashish, as well as the defendant S.E.I., on board the vehicle that they were going to use for transport. As reported at the time by the Civil Guard, these last three were arrested on the beach, while the occupants of the boat were arrested at the Marina Rubicón port, where they went after unloading the drugs.

The sixth defendant, M.A.C.A., was in another car carrying out “counter-surveillance work on the road to Playa Quemada.”
