The Prosecutor's Office is requesting a sentence of 20 years and two months in prison for the accused of mistreating and killing his partner in Lanzarote in January 2019, whose body he burned on a barbecue, dismembered and threw into the sea, according to his indictment, in which he is charged with six crimes.
The accused, Raul D.C., also made friends and family believe that his wife, Romina Celeste R.N, had left home after an argument and reported her disappearance to the Civil Guard, the document states, which states that he considered his wife as "an inferior being" on whom he could unleash his rage and "because she was young, foreign and without resources who worked as a prostitute to support herself economically."
According to the Prosecutor's Office, during their relationship, the accused assaulted his partner and treated her with contempt.
His report details the blows he inflicted on her in August 2018 when they were staying in a hotel and in the days prior to her death, at the family home, and for which she had to go to the island's hospital emergency room, although she was not treated by the doctor when the defendant appeared there.
According to the Public Prosecutor's account, in the early morning of January 1, 2019, the accused hit his wife in different parts of the body and killed her, although the mechanisms that caused her death are unknown.
To get rid of her body, he burned it on the barbecue at his house - part of it that day and the rest between the next two - then dismembered it and hid it in garbage bags that he threw into the sea in the Ancones area of Costa Teguise, for which he rented a vehicle on January 3, the prosecutor maintains.
A part of the body that he could not burn was thrown by the accused into the Los Hervideros area in the early morning of January 5. Afterwards, he got rid of the barbecue and instruments used to dismember the corpse and other objects that could incriminate him.
The defendant was arrested on January 13, 2019 and has been in pre-trial detention since January 16 of that year.
