The Second Chance Law allows a new beginning for a family based in Arrecife who had to declare bankruptcy. The Justice has released them from a debt of 14,200 euros so they can rebuild their lives and raise their three children.
Elercido Núñez and his spouse had employment and economic security and trusted that they could face the repayment of a loan they had requested to settle in the capital of Lanzarote with their children.
When Elercido suffered an accident, the income entering the house was drastically reduced and the family became dependent on a single salary. Subsequently, his wife also lost her job, pregnant with her third child, she had difficulties accessing another position and problems began to face the payment of the rent of the house and basic expenses. Drowned by the debt, they resorted to a revolving card that was a temporary escape route but that, over time, led to the accumulation of new debts with high interest rates that finally led them to resort to the Second Chance Law.
The Justice has given a second chance to this family, with the cancellation of the accumulated debt so they can start from scratch. According to this person affected by the debt, "I felt in a vulnerable situation, since I had been dragging a debt that I could not pay, although I tried to get into debt on the other side. In reality, what I was doing was sinking more and more. The cancellation thanks to the Second Chance Law has been a joy for my whole family and now I can start again with more strength."
The coordinator of the Lanzarote office of Canarias Sin Deuda, Erik Curquejo, explains that "In order to qualify for the Second Chance Law, it is necessary to meet a series of requirements that, in the case of Elercido and Yakira, were met. Before resorting to the creditors' meeting, they had tried by all means to get out of their debt situation without success."
