The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try next June 18 in Arrecife a defendant accused of raping his ex-partner in her home in Arrecife.
The events date back to November 13, 2022, when the defendant D.R.I. allegedly sexually assaulted his ex-partner, with whom he had been for four years.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office's indictment, at the time of the events, it was common for the defendant and his ex-partner to continue seeing each other and having consensual sexual relations. However, the public ministry states that that day was different.
After a morning of hiking, they agreed to meet again at night. However, he sent her a message saying he did not want to meet her. His ex-partner went to the defendant's home in Arrecife around 8:30 p.m. to talk to him.
Upon her arrival at the residence, an argument ensued between them. The public prosecutor's office states that D.R.I. allegedly grabbed the woman by the shoulders, took her to the bedroom, and allegedly tore her bodysuit, removed her clothes, and pushed her onto the bed. At that moment, he allegedly raped her. The Prosecutor's Office points out that he addressed his ex-partner and told her "get dressed and leave."
The Prosecutor's Office states that "as a consequence of these events," the woman suffers from symptomatology associated with symptoms of depression, such as apathy, avoidance of activities, feelings of helplessness, anxiety, nervousness, sleep problems, and loss of appetite.
For this reason, he considers D.R.I. guilty of a crime of sexual assault and requests that he be sentenced to twelve years in prison. In addition, he requests a prohibition from communicating with her or going to her home for thirteen years, as well as a supervised release sentence for six years.
To which he adds the request for eighteen years of disqualification from exercising any "profession, trade, or activity" that involves regular and direct contact with minors for a period of eighteen years.
The defendant, if found guilty, will have to compensate the victim with 20,000 euros.
