Section V of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try next week, on June 2, in Gran Canaria, a defendant accused of transporting camouflaged in a car 21 kilograms of cocaine between Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.

The events took place on August 5, 2025, around 5:15 p.m., when the defendant A.M.G. arrived at the Port of La Luz, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on a ship from a shipping company from Lanzarote.

As reported at the time by the Tax Agency, the man was intercepted upon disembarking during a routine check with the help of a dog from the Narcotics Unit of the Civil Guard's Cynological Service.

According to the prosecution's indictment, A.M.G. allegedly transported a total of 612,885 euros worth of cocaine in a vehicle he owned, with a purity of 86.56%. The drug was allegedly camouflaged in "compartments" created to hide it.

The Public Prosecutor's Office accuses him of acting "with total disregard for the health of others" and of intending to use that drug to distribute it to third parties on the island.

The defendant has been in provisional prison since the time of the events.

The Public Prosecutor's Office accuses him of a crime against public health in the modality of a substance that causes serious harm to health, for drug trafficking. Therefore, it requests nine years in prison for A.M.G., a fine of 1.5 million euros, special disqualification from exercising passive rights for the duration of the sentence, and the costs of the trial.

In addition, it requested the confiscation of the drug and the vehicle used to transport it. Meanwhile, the Tax Agency reported that the seized drug was sent to the Health Area of the Government Sub-delegation of Las Palmas to be analyzed and to determine its type and purity, which is now known to be 86.56%.
