The Canary Islands Prosecutor's Office, in its 2025 report, stated that Tahíche prison, in Teguise, housed a total of 454 inmates throughout 2024. The majority were serving sentences in said prison (343), while the rest were pre-trial detainees (90). The number of prisoners in Lanzarote grew by 4.3% in one year.

In total, the three prisons located in the province of Las Palmas, one in Lanzarote and two in Gran Canaria, have deprived 2,292 people of their liberty, to which conditional releases and those subjected to security measures would have to be added. The Public Prosecutor's Office points out that no new module was opened in any of the three prisons during 2024, but that this "would be desirable".

The majority were distributed between the Las Palmas II Penitentiary Center (Gran Canaria) and Las Palmas I, known as Salto del Negro, which housed 1,838 inmates. The prisoners have been distributed among the different prisons to "relieve congestion to some extent" at the Las Palmas I prison

At the Lanzarote Penitentiary Center, 1,153 sentences have been processed, condemning individuals to community service for various offenses including gender-based violence, traffic violations, assault, and property crimes. Meanwhile, 1,077 cases have been dismissed, 28 remain pending, 168 are being managed, and 422 are being served.
