The position number 1 of the Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance of Arrecife (formerly Instruction Court number 1 of Arrecife) is instructing the case that investigates the death by overdose of a young woman of 19 years, whose body appeared lifeless in an abandoned construction site of Arrecife a little over a year ago.
The young woman's family, who has requested to act as a private prosecution in this case, is awaiting the results of a forensic report on the analysis of the narcotic substances that ended her life to classify the facts. For the moment, they are considering accusing the suspects of a crime of homicide and another of sexual assault. "My daughter was assaulted and my daughter did not consume drugs," her mother defends in statements to this outlet.
As confirmed by the Court's Communication Office to La Voz, the procedure is still in preliminary proceedings, awaiting this forensic report. For the moment, the investigation remains open in the investigative body. Pending these toxicological results, the Court still has to decide whether, once the investigation is concluded, it will proceed to a summary or become a jury trial.
Nor has it been clarified yet if the causes of death are due to negligent homicide or with intent, that is to say, if there was intent to end the young woman's life.
Two suspects for the homicide
Sources from the Policía Nacional have confirmed to this outlet that within the framework of the police investigation, two people were arrested as suspects of the homicide of this young woman. After being brought before the court, both suspects were released pending this toxicological test. Therefore, it is not ruled out that they may be arrested again.
According to what the minor's mother has narrated, her daughter, born in Asturias, was admitted to the Psychiatry Unit of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote, where she was receiving treatment. The young woman stated that she was going to smoke in the patio and fled the hospital, leaving her belongings behind.
About her death by overdose, the family of the deceased young woman maintains that she had never before taken drugs and that she was actually assaulted.
These same sources have assured that the family has filed a complaint for negligence against the Canarian Health Service because although it activated an escape protocol, it did not notify her parents nor the National Police of her escape from the place, despite the fact that she was a patient with mental health problems.
The young woman resided in the town of Puerto del Carmen and her mother had reported her disappearance a day earlier. Finally, the Policía Nacional de Arrecife found the young woman dead in an abandoned construction site on Tenderete street in the Argana Alta neighborhood.
After being alerted by two people who found the inert body of the young woman, health workers from the Canary Islands Emergency Service and agents of the National Police appeared in the neighborhood of Argana Alta. The health workers could only confirm her death, while the agents took over the police investigation.
