The Court of Instruction number 4 of Lanzarote, held by Judge Ricardo Fiestras, sent the statement of reasons to the Supreme Court on February 21 so that the High Court can assess whether or not to judge the case against the senator for the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands Pedro San Ginés. This has been confirmed by Supreme Court sources to La Voz.

The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, through five magistrates, will analyze the statement of reasons and the report of the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine if there are sufficient indications to continue the case in Madrid against the former president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and senator of the Canarian Coalition in the Upper House. For the moment, the process is pending admission for processing.

Meanwhile, the Communication Office of the Court in the Canary Islands has informed La Voz that "this reasoned statement does not enter into the content but is limited to justifying the sending of the case from one judicial body to another." Thus, this internal communication is not even communicated to the parties.

The Court of Instruction number 2, which initially handled the case, charged San Ginés with the crimes of embezzlement of public funds, bribery, money laundering, abuse of power, fraud against the administration, document forgery and membership of a criminal group or organization.

This is the criminal case that investigates the hiring of the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud, a friend of the former president, in the public companies of Inalsa and the Consortium. A patrimonial report of the Team against Organized Crime (ECO), dependent on the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, accredited that the UTE EDAM Janubio made a transfer of 642,000 euros to the company of Ignacio Calatayud to pay the procedural costs of an incident of the bankruptcy proceedings in which he acted as lawyer.

Two days later, Ignacio Calatayud cancelled the mortgage of two homes located in the Chueca square in Madrid. According to the aforementioned report, this payment would correspond to two fees that the lawyer would have allegedly obtained as judicial costs, property of the Water Consortium of Lanzarote and Inalsa. The alleged appropriation of these and other judicial costs by Calatayud originated the complaint of the Consortium and Inalsa and the current judicial case.

The Government of the Canary Islands, formed by the Canarian Coalition, the Popular Party, ASG and AHI, appointed Pedro San Ginés as senator for the Autonomous Community, despite the fact that there were two pending judicial cases against him.

In addition, there is already another open case against the person with privileged status in the Supreme Court. In this case, the Criminal Chamber opened a criminal proceeding against the senator, which had already been initiated in the Criminal Court number 3 of Arrecife, for the crimes of false testimony and false accusation.
