The defendant accused of sexually assaulting a young woman in Arrecife in 2017 has acknowledged the facts before the Second Section of the Provincial Court this Tuesday and has accepted a six-year prison sentence, compared to the nine years in prison initially demanded by the Prosecutor's Office.
In this way, what is stated in the indictment is considered proven, which is that on December 25, 2017, when Ángel Esmil Camino was 18 years old and was in the company of the victim and an acquaintance inside the young woman's home, "also being in the place the mother of the latter", sexually assaulted her "taking advantage of the fact that she was in a state of drowsiness as a result of previous alcohol consumption."
Specifically, the accused accompanied the young woman to her room and, "once she had lain down on the bed", he placed himself "on top" of her "and penetrated her vaginally". Upon awakening, the young woman "actively opposed the sexual relationship, trying to push the accused away from her", but he "covered her mouth with his hand, pressing, to prevent her from screaming, while with the other hand he held her body", while continuing with the sexual assault.
Finally, the young woman "managed to scream" and, as a result, "her mother and the acquaintance who was there came to the room, who managed to separate the defendant and push him to the ground, the latter then fleeing the home."
In addition to a nine-year prison sentence, which the accused has seen reduced, the Prosecutor's Office requested that the accused be imposed, once he had served the prison sentence, a supervised release measure for another nine years, with the prohibition of approaching the victim or communicating with her and with the obligation to participate in sexual education courses. Likewise, compensation for the victim of 30,000 euros was requested.
