The Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands has confirmed the six-year prison sentence that the Sixth Section of the Las Palmas Court imposed on a man for a crime of attempted homicide, with the mitigating circumstance of intoxication, for attempting to kill a roommate with whom he had been living for only a few days in Arrecife after arguing over a cigarette.

The sentence reaffirms the ruling of April 26, 2021, which declared proven that the events took place at approximately 06:30 on December 6, 2019, in a residence in the island's capital when a dispute began between them.

The accused began to insult and try to start an argument, which caused the victim to leave the house. However, the aggressor went after him with a 30-centimeter knife and stabbed him in the back of the neck when he was in the building's entrance.

A struggle then began in which the accused stabbed the victim several times again before fleeing the scene, while the roommate was able to go up to his apartment and ask for help for injuries that caused him to be hospitalized for five days and another 55 until he fully recovered.
