A resident of Lanzarote has managed to cancel a debt of 15,855.54 euros thanks to the Second Chance Law, after obtaining a favorable ruling in the Mercantile Court number one of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The judicial resolution has been achieved with the legal representation of the Legantis Abogados law firm, by the hand of the lawyer Carlos Arencibia Medina.
The ruling dismisses the allegations of the creditors, Cajamar Caja Rural and the Tax Agency, who argued the existence of an alleged "reckless indebtedness". However, the court considers that "the unpaid liability should be considered extinguished", as there is no bad faith on the part of the debtor. In addition, it highlights that the only debts with private creditors date from the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, and that these did not actively participate in the insolvency proceedings.
Carlos Arencibia, the lawyer in the case, celebrated the ruling: "This is very good news to start the summer. Our client is going on vacation with 15,000 euros of debts cancelled. This law provides a new beginning for those who live suffocated by burdens they cannot pay." He also encouraged other people in a similar situation to come to his office: "This is a very simple procedure."

The Second Chance Law, officially Law 25/2015, allows individuals and self-employed workers to cancel their debts when they cannot meet them, provided they meet certain good faith requirements. A tool that is becoming increasingly relevant in contexts of economic difficulties.
