The Prosecutor's Office requests nine years in prison for a young man who will be tried next Tuesday, April 30, by the Second Section of the Provincial Court, accused of sexually assaulting another young woman in Arrecife in 2017. Likewise, the Public Ministry demands that he compensate the victim with 30,000 euros.
According to the indictment, the events took place on December 25, 2017, when Ángel Esmil Camilo, who was then 18 years old, was in the company of the victim and an acquaintance inside the young woman's home, "also finding himself in the place the mother of the latter".
At one point, according to the Public Prosecutor, the defendant accompanied the young woman to her room and, "once she had lain down on the bed, taking advantage of the fact that she was in a state of drowsiness as a result of previous alcohol consumption", he placed himself "on top" of her "and vaginally penetrated her".
Upon awakening, the indictment adds, the young woman "actively opposed the sexual relationship, trying to push the accused away from her" but he "covered her mouth with his hand, pressing, to prevent her from screaming, while with the other hand he held her body", while continuing with the sexual assault.
Finally, according to the Prosecutor's Office, the young woman "managed to scream" and, as a result, "her mother and the acquaintance who was there came to the room, who managed to separate the defendant and push him to the ground, fleeing him then from the address".
Supervised release for another nine years after serving the sentence
The Public Ministry considers that the events constitute a crime of sexual assault and, therefore, requests a sentence of nine years in prison for Ángel Esmil Camilo, as well as a prohibition from approaching within 500 meters of the victim, her home, place of work and any other place frequented by her, as well as communicating with the young woman, for a period of 20 years.
If convicted, the Prosecutor's Office also requests that the accused be imposed the measure of supervised release for nine years once he has served the prison sentence, with the prohibition of approaching the victim or communicating with her and with the obligation to participate in sexual education courses.
