The Prosecutor's Office is asking for 19 years in prison for a man accused of burning his partner in Arrecife, who will be tried on November 26, by the Second Section of the Provincial Court, in Gran Canaria. The Public Prosecutor's Office is also requesting that he be prohibited from residing in Lanzarote.
According to the indictment, the events took place on July 28, 2016, when G.A.G.G. was at the home where he lived with his partner, with whom he had a sentimental relationship "for 35 years."
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, at some point between 00:00 and 05:00 hours "a discussion began between them, during which the victim locked herself in the bedroom, to which the defendant, knocking down the door, gained access." Once inside and "guided by the desire to set fire" to his partner and "being aware of the high risk that his conduct created for the physical integrity of the victim," the Prosecutor's Office maintains that "with a red gasoline can that he was carrying in his hand, he threw it on the hair" of the woman "and using a lighter, he lit it and set it on fire, then extinguishing it with the bed sheets."
With his action, it is pointed out that G.A.G.G. caused his partner "a physical impairment compatible with a second-degree burn" for whose recovery required initial medical assistance and medical treatment consisting of "cleaning the burned surface, surgical debridement and specific treatment in order to create a humid environment to reduce pain and promote healing, taking approximately 15 to 21 days to heal, all of which prevented her from her usual occupations."
Although the injured party has waived the right to exercise any actions that may correspond to her against the accused, the Prosecutor's Office considers that the facts constitute a crime of arson with the aggravating circumstance of gender and kinship in ideal concurrence with a crime of injury. Thus, it requests a sentence of 19 years in prison for the accused, as well as a prohibition from residing in Lanzarote and from approaching the victim within 500 meters or communicating with her for a period of 29 years.
