The Prosecutor's Office requests prison sentences totaling 17 years for two people whom it accuses of killing another with a stab, in 2022, in a house in Arrecife, in addition to threatening to kill the victim's brother who was trying to help him.
According to the indictment of the Public Ministry, these two people are the perpetrators of a crime of homicide, another of damages -caused to the entrance door of the house- and a third of threats, and now it will be a Jury court, in a hearing that begins this Monday in the Second Section of the Las Palmas Court, which will elucidate guilt for the events.
Based on the factual account of the prosecutor, the two defendants -one of Spanish nationality and the other a native of Morocco- went to a home in the capital of Lanzarote on the night of March 1, 2022, each carrying a large knife, and engaged in a heated argument with its residents, two brothers.
In the context of this argument, the defendants "with the intention of causing the death" of one of the residents of the house, or at least knowing that with their actions they could cause it, stabbed him in the middle area of the left side.
This stab wound caused an incisive-puncturing wound in the skin and penetrated the thoracic cavity affecting the left lung, pericardium and cardiac viscera, which caused his death due to a failure in the vital centers derived from hemorrhagic shock, the prosecutor details.
Beyond this, the two defendants agreed to intimidate the victim's brother, who was trying to help her outside the house, whom they approached while brandishing their knives.
For these acts, the prosecutor requests sentences of 15 years in prison for the crime of homicide, and two more for the criminal offense of threats, as well as a supervised release measure of ten years after serving the prison sentence.
In the case of the Moroccan citizen, the prosecutor proposes that the execution of the entire sentence imposed on him be ordered "as it is necessary to ensure the defense of the legal order and restore confidence in the validity of the rule violated by the crime", and that it be replaced by expulsion from the country and the prohibition of returning to Spain for ten years, once he reaches the third degree or is granted parole.
In addition, the Prosecutor's Office requests a fine of 14,400 euros, at a rate of 20 euros per day for 24 months for the crime of damages, since it considers that the two defendants caused damage to the door of the house, which they destroyed during the discussion.
Finally, he asks that both defendants jointly and severally compensate the brothers of the deceased in the amount of 120,000 euros for his death, adding the estimated cost of repairing the broken door, which was valued at 565 euros.
