The Provincial Court of Las Palmas has sentenced the two young men who raped and recorded a girl to 11 years and six months and 9 years and six months in prison after meeting her on the night of February 24, 2024, at the carnival festivities in the capital of Gran Canaria, as stated in the sentence, provided this Thursday to EFE.
The court has considered it proven that the two defendants, T.A.P. and A.A.B., committed two crimes, one of sexual assault and another against the victim's privacy, for which it has sentenced the first to 11 years and six months in prison and the second to 9 years and six months, and also to compensate the young woman with 40,000 euros for the injuries and moral damages they caused her.
The accused A.A.B. is also ordered to pay a fine of 1,080 euros.
The Provincial Court has summoned the parties, the defenses, and the prosecutions exercised by the Public Prosecutor's Office and by the victim to an appearance next week, to resolve the personal situation of the convicted persons in light of the issued sentence, which is not final and can be appealed.
The prosecutor Cecilia Abascal and the private prosecution lawyer, Pino de la Nuez, demanded prison sentences of 20 and 19 years for the two accused for crimes of sexual assault and disclosure of secrets, and compensation of 30,000 euros, which the court has raised to 40,000 euros due to the seriousness of the facts.
The moral damage caused to the victim is manifested in the sequelae she has suffered and in the impact the events had on her life, as she dropped out of her university career, when she was in the second semester of her final year and about to undertake external internships, which she could not even begin, given the impact she was experiencing, the sentence states in its grounds.
The court considers it proven that the two accused engaged in non-consensual sexual relations with the young woman and that they recorded part of the events, that they later exchanged the videos, and one of them sent them to a third party via WhatsApp without the victim's consent.
According to the ruling, the defendant T.A.P. will not be able to approach or communicate with the victim for a period of 14 years and is disqualified for a period of 18 years from any profession, trade, or activities, whether paid or unpaid, that involve regular and direct contact with minors. He is also imposed the security measure of supervised release for 10 years.
The accused A.A.B. will not be able to approach or communicate with the victim for a period of 13 years and is imposed 16 years of disqualification from any profession, trade, or activities, whether paid or unpaid, that involve regular and direct contact with minors, as well as the measure of supervised release for a period of nine years.
The defenses of the accused requested their acquittal during the oral hearing of the trial, held in December 2025 in the City of Justice of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
