The businessman Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, known as 'The Mediator' for his involvement in the alleged corruption scheme that affects politicians and businessmen of the Canary Islands, is accused in Lanzarote of theft and fraud.
The events date back to August 2021. According to the Court of Instruction number 4 of Arrecife, directed by Ricardo Fiestras, Navarro Tacoronte allegedly stole the credit card of the complainant while both were in a hotel, the card's pin was written on a paper "of small size". After that, the accused would have used it without permission until spending 3,575.20 euros between August 20 and 23, 2021.
In the framework of the investigation, which started from a complaint, the security cameras of the ATMs were viewed where the accused Navarro Tacoronte could be observed. In addition, statements were taken from those involved and bank receipts were reviewed.
After the preliminary proceedings and with all this, the Court of Instruction number 4 opened an oral trial in March 2023 against Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, accused of the alleged crimes of theft and fraud. In this piece, a bond of 3,375.2 euros was requested, the money allegedly defrauded, and the Criminal Court on duty was determined as competent to prosecute the case.
The arrest of Marco Antonio Navarro during the early hours of this Tuesday in Gran Canaria, at the request of the Court directed by Fiestras, was given with the objective of notifying him of the opening of this oral trial in Lanzarote. 'The Mediator' had a search and capture order for not attending the appointments that were sent to his home to notify him of everything related to the procedure. So the Civil Guard arrested him in a hotel in Santa Lucía de Tirajana in Gran Canaria.
At the moment there is no date for the hearing, as it has just been notified.
