Two national police officers stated this Monday before the Jury judging in the Audiencia de Las Palmas the man accused of having stabbed to death a 21-year-old young man in a bar in the capital of Gran Canaria on May 19, 2023, that the defendant admitted to them that he had stabbed him when he was arrested and that he did it out of "pride".

In the first session of the trial against José Miguel A., for whom the Prosecutor's Office is seeking a 15-year sentence for the crime of homicide and the private prosecution 22 years for considering it murder, the two police officers stated that the defendant also told them and other officers that he had been beaten at the bar and that's why he went to his house to get a knife and that, upon returning, he stabbed the victim, Yenedey Jesús N.M., twice in the back.

"What's done is done," the accused told the officer who was in charge of guarding the detainee in the bar where the events took place, where a young woman and the owner of the establishment, who was acting as the bouncer, were also injured with the knife, for which the Prosecutor's Office also requests an additional sentence of 2 years in prison and a fine of 400 euros, respectivelyThe defendant, for whom his lawyer is requesting acquittal, has denied to the court having said that to the police: "It's impossible that I said I had taken a knife from the house," "I had no intention of killing anyone."In his statement, he indicated that he grabbed the knife from the sink in the bar's bathroom because he was afraid, as he saw that **the victim was going to attack him with another** and explained that he returned to the establishment because he had left his wallet and a sweatshirt, and that when he was there the first time, the deceased had punched him for having stepped on him.

Drunk and high

According to the defendant, he returned to the premises around 10:00 AM to collect his belongings in the company of his daughter and ex-partner, and at the insistence of his ex-wife since **he kept his daughter's documents in his wallet**, as his intention was to stay at her house, having been **consuming cocaine and alcohol** since the previous day

The first incident at the bar occurred between 6:00 and 6:30 AM on May 19, and while he was flirting with a girl, he accidentally stepped on the deceased young man, to whom he apologized. They argued, and the victim punched him, and his friends also hit him, the accused recounted.

A restraining order against his ex-partner

He also stated that when he left the bar, he sent a WhatsApp message to his ex-wife and another to his daughter with a photo of his face, telling them he had been beaten and was going home. Both women went to his home because they were worried, despite **the restraining order he had against his ex-partner**

The accused was arrested that day at the bar because there were sufficient indications that he had been the perpetrator of the stabbings, based on the spontaneous and consistent statements of witnesses present at the establishment, and because the version offered by the arrested man's family seemed "prepared" and "didn't add up," stated the police officer who was secretary of the report and also participated in some proceedings.

Witnesses said the young man was attacked "suddenly" and that the accused entered the establishment's restroom and delivered two "fatal" stab wounds, with two women (mother and daughter) at his side urging him to do so, this witness specifiedHe added that he found the victim on the ground, lying on her side and bleeding heavily from stab wounds, which, based on his experience, appeared "very serious," and that no weapons were found among her belongings or around her.

More police officers who intervened in the case will testify on Monday afternoon, and on Tuesday the session is scheduled to continue with more testimonies in the trial being held by the sixth section of the Audiencia de Las Palmas, where family and friends of the victim have called for "Justice for Yenedey"
