The Second Chance Law has allowed a resident of Arrecife to get rid of a debt of more than 57,700 euros. Fernando Alexis's economic situation gradually deteriorated until he reached a situation of insolvency after separating, in 2018, and having to face the maintenance of his children, among other expenses. When the situation was already unsustainable, he initiated the debt cancellation procedure with the help of the specialized firm Canarias Sin Deuda and now the justice has exonerated him of his debts.

In addition to the resources to support his children, Fernando Alexis had to face alone the payment of his housing and the supplies of electricity and water, among other basic expenses.

Trying to overcome his precarious economic situation, and without any prospect of improvement in his working conditions at that time, he requested a leave of absence to take a job that offered him a higher salary. However, with the pandemic, his contract ended and he became unemployed, having to resort to loans to subsist and meet the obligations with his children.

Despite all the efforts to get ahead and despite having joined his current job in June 2020, the level of debt acquired, added to the loan installments and the payment of interest, was already so high that it was impossible for him to assume it, so he had to resort to the Second Chance Law.

After learning that the justice has canceled his debt. Fernando Alexis feels "relieved and grateful for the possibility of moving forward free of debt." “The most important thing is my children. I couldn't allow them to lack anything, but the situation was becoming impossible for me. Thanks to the help of Canarias Sin Deuda and the Second Chance Law, I have the possibility to start again.”

According to the coordinator of the Canarias Sin Deuda office in Lanzarote, Erik Curquejo: "Fernando Alexis, due to his situation and after all the efforts demonstrated to get ahead, met the necessary requirements to benefit from the Second Chance Law. At Canarias Sin Deuda we analyzed his case and started with him the processing of the debt cancellation process, we soon saw that his attitude and involvement in the process was totally favorable to achieve the cancellation of his debt, keeping his home and the vehicle he needs for his day to day life."

The advisor of the office, Lidia Rodríguez, who has taken the case, points out “Alexis's collaboration and good faith has been fundamental to be able to carry out the process.”
