The Court of Violence against Women number 2 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has ordered the detention of a doctor, 37 years old, from the Canarian Health Service for allegedly sexually assaulting ten women and for the commission of crimes against privacy.

According to information from the Court's Communication Office, while the doctor was detained, the Police proceeded to enter and search his home. After his arrest, he will be brought before a judge within the legal period of 72 hours. For the moment, it will be necessary to wait to know what the court's decision will be, regarding whether he will be placed in pre-trial detention or released and the charges against him.

The judicial proceedings concerning this investigation were declared secret while the search of the homes was being carried out.

Detained for the second time this year

This healthcare worker had been arrested by the National Police and released last February 3. The registered doctor was then arrested for two crimes of sexual assault committed against two patients while practicing as a doctor.

The investigations against him began after the complaints filed by the victims, who reported having suffered "touching and behaviors of a sexual nature" during medical consultations in Emergency.

The National Police reported two months ago in a statement that the doctor "acted with a clear abuse of his professional position, generating in the victims a state of paralysis and confusion in the face of the situation, without capacity for immediate reaction".

On that occasion, the Court decreed his provisional release and the prohibition from approaching and communicating with four victims.
