A man accused of fraud for renting an apartment in Tenerife that did not exist has accepted this Monday during the oral hearing held in the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife a year in prison and the payment of 7,520 euros.
Of the amount agreed in the judgment of conformity, 6,800 euros correspond to civil liability and 720 to the fine, also agreeing to suspend the entry into prison, as long as he does not commit a crime in the next two years.
The woman wanted to rent a home in the south of Tenerife in February of this year and for this she contacted the accused who, according to the Prosecutor's Office, simulated "as part of his fraudulent scheme, to be manager of a company dedicated to the rental sector".
Therefore, he offered her a home and referred her to another person by means of a telephone and the corresponding Whatsapp that in turn sent her photographs of the alleged apartment offered.
The complainant arranged the rental, sent the required documentation and made a first transfer of 2,400 euros as two months of deposit and one of rent to the account of the defendant.
However, when the complainant told him that the money would take 48 hours to arrive, the man demanded that it be an immediate transfer since otherwise he could not make the visit to the apartment, so the victim asked her sister to make a second shipment of 2,400 to the same account.
Once the date and time were set to visit the apartment, the woman realized that the accused had not come, nor anyone on his behalf, saw that the street number of the alleged apartment did not exist and it was impossible to contact the defendant.
The Prosecutor's Office initially requested a sentence of 3 years in prison and a fine of 2,000 euros plus the return of 4,800 euros that would have been appropriated in case of fraud, as agreed.
