The Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security has approved the staff of the new Court of First Instance no. 6 of Arrecife, which will come into operation on December 31, and which will have nine positions, including managers, processors and judicial assistants.

The agreement was reached this Tuesday at the meeting of the Sectoral Table convened by the general director of Relations with the Administration of Justice, María del Carmen de León, with the Justice unions, the Ministry reports in a statement.

With this new court in Lanzarote, there will be nine that the Ministry of the Presidency has opened under the management of Minister Nieves Lady Barreto, more than in all the years of the past legislature.

With regard to the hiring of personnel, these nine positions are added to the 76 positions created with the eight courts that have already been put into operation so far this year, which brings the total to 85 professionals hired to attend to these new judicial units.

Since last June, the Court of First Instance No. 18 of Las Palmas, the Court of Violence against Women No. 3 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Court of First Instance No. 11 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Court of First Instance No. 8 of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 8 of Puerto del Rosario, in compliance with Royal Decree 1170/2023, of December 27, are in operation.

In September, the Court of First Instance No. 6 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the Court of Instruction No. 4 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 5 of Granadilla de Abona were opened, created by Royal Decree 954/2022, of November 15, and which should have come into operation in June 2023.

The Ministry has insisted to the Ministry of Justice on the need for it to authorize the opening of more courts in the Canary Islands to cope with the overload of work due to the high litigation in the islands, the highest in the country.
