The Sixth Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try Clemente Nieves Eugenio, the owner of a carpentry shop in San Bartolomé, next Tuesday, March 28, in Arrecife, accused of a crime of misappropriation of his clients' money. The Prosecutor's Office is asking for a sentence of eight years in prison and the payment of a fine of 3,600 euros. This trial was scheduled to be held on December 15, 2016, but was finally suspended and a new date had to be set.
The events now being judged occurred between 2006 and 2007, when Clemente Nieves Eugenio exclusively managed the carpentry workshop 'El Carpintito' in San Bartolomé. According to the indictment of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the accused "accepted a series of jobs on behalf of the company, receiving from clients certain amounts of money as an advance for their completion, taking advantage of his professional credibility and the relationships of trust that existed between them." However, according to the prosecutor, he then failed to complete the work or in some cases only delivered the materials.
The indictment states that Clemente Nieves Eugenio "incorporated into his assets" more than 13,300 euros that were given to him by six clients for different orders. The amounts delivered range between 1,000 euros and 4,700 euros. The total amount includes "airline tickets for the amount of 1,300 euros", which one of the clients "acquired for the accused on account of the manufacture and assembly of two bathroom furniture and the lining of two fitted wardrobes". The carpenter only gave him "the materials, without assembling, which have not been expertly valued". The prosecutor asks that the accused pay the money delivered, deducting the amount of the materials in those cases in which he delivered them.
The accused already has two final convictions for other crimes, according to the Prosecutor's Office. Thus, in February 2011 he was sentenced to four years in prison for a crime of injury and to five and a half years in prison for robbery with violence and illegal detention. In December 2011 he was sentenced again to one year in prison, in this case for a crime of robbery with force.
