The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try on June 4 in Lanzarote a man accused of robbery with violence and attempted homicide.
The Prosecutor's Office is asking for the accused J.J.H.M., Spanish and with seven previous convictions, a total of 12 years in prison, in addition to special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the time of the sentences and the payment of court costs.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, on January 8, 2020, the accused entered the house located in Arrecife, taking advantage of the fact that the main door was open "and guided by the desire for illicit enrichment and taking advantage of the fact that its resident, an elderly person, was asleep in the armchair." After grabbing her by the neck and stealing a wallet with 1,600 euros, the accused began "with the intention of causing her death or with the knowledge that he could cause it, to hit her hard on the head" and later, he dragged her to the bathroom, where he left her locked up before fleeing.
The victim suffered a traumatic brain injury with intraventricular hemorrhage, several facial and shoulder fractures and other injuries that put her life at risk. She spent 70 days in the hospital - six of them in the ICU - and suffers from sequelae such as mandibular malocclusion, post-traumatic arthrosis in the shoulder and a slight aesthetic damage.
In addition to the prison sentence, the Prosecutor's Office requests that the accused compensate the woman with 1,600 euros for the stolen money, 6,107.52 euros for the days of healing and 7,445.34 euros for the sequelae, amounts that will accrue legal interest increased by two points. It also appreciates the aggravating circumstance of recidivism, given that the defendant was convicted of robbery with force in 2016 and theft in 2019, among other antecedents that do not count for the purposes of recidivism.
