If something has changed since the Covid 19 pandemic began five years ago, it is the social and political sensitivity about mental health.

A sensitivity that translates into more students and more employment in the field of psychology. A good example is the number of university enrollments.

At the Lanzarote campus of the National University of Distance Education (UNED), psychology enrollments have boomed since the pandemic.

In 2019, there were a total of 89 students enrolled in Psychology at UNED Lanzarote. This year, there are 122 formal enrollments in the Psychology degree, which is equivalent to a 37% increase.

Something that does not happen in the rest of the university degrees offered by UNED in Lanzarote.

In reality, very few have increased their number of students compared to 2019, and those that have done so have added very few students. Among those that add: Social Work, Chemistry, Geography and History, Art History or Philosophy.

The careers of Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Language and Literature and engineering remain with a similar number of students.

Enrollments in Social Education, Pedagogy, Economics, Business Administration and Management, Tourism, Law and Sociology, among others, have decreased.
