The Government of the Canary Islands has paid 2.1 million euros in university scholarships corresponding to the first definitive list of aid from which 1,287 university students from the archipelago have benefited.
More than half study at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 35% in La Laguna and 13% in other universities in the country.
For this first phase of scholarship delivery, the University team of the Ministry assessed 3,488 applications, which represents 30% of the 11,739 received.
University sources explain that they are working to publish the second list of university scholarship grants corresponding to the current course as quickly as possible.
In addition to the 2.1 million in scholarships in this first batch, 457,500 euros were also allocated for accommodation; 123,489.50 euros as transportation expenses; 685,950 euros as compensatory aid for those students from less favored incomes; and 878,123 euros as tuition expenses.
