Going back to school for the 2023-2024 school year will cost an average of 390 euros per student in the Canary Islands, according to estimates from the financial portal Banqmi, which analyzes the average price of books and uniforms.
Specifically, each family in the archipelago will spend an average of 176 euros on books and 213 euros on uniforms.
This is the third region where the least is spent on going back to school. The lowest prices are found in Extremadura, with 383 euros, and Castilla-La Mancha, with 387.
The national average is 410 euros per student, which is 1.39% more than last year. Prices rose much more the previous year. At that time, the increase was 4.73%. If we compare the figures before the pandemic with those of this year, the increase is about 40 euros.
The Spanish families that will spend the most on going back to school are those in the Valencian Community (465.55 euros), followed by those in Catalonia (447.86 euros) and Navarra (447.36 euros).
"In the communities where there is bilingualism, that is, that have a co-official language such as Catalan or Basque, they tend to be the ones with the highest book prices, even though in both Navarra and the Valencian Community books in primary and secondary schools of the public and subsidized systems are free," explains Banqmi's financial expert, Antonio Gallardo.
This expert also adds that "the exception is Galicia with Galician, where books have an average price of 179.74 euros per student, a cost that is within the average."
