The "Anti-Rumor Training", which will be held in the Municipal Archive of Arrecife, is an initiative of the "Canarias Convive" program, of the Government of the Canary Islands, which through "educational talks" deals with the "basic notions about racism and how it is presented in our society."

The training will consist of "five days" (May 8, 9, 10 and 11), "four in person" with reflection dynamics", plus the realization of an "anti-rumor awareness campaign" by each island.

In addition, on the fifth day (May 23) "each island will present its campaign, the best one will be voted and the campaign of the winning proposal will be carried out", confirms Mercedes De León, technician of the project.

The objective of the training is that "as a result of different dynamics, we can reflect and think about discrimination", acknowledges Mercedes.

We must learn to "recognize" and take into account "that it exists" and identify "what are the elements of propagation of fake news", she argues. And thus be able to teach "how to deal with it in a peaceful way".

This year is our third year and "we have a very strong quarry", specifically around "1200 people who have participated in the project". This time we have collaborated with "the City Council of Arrecife", she shares.

"Around more than 120 people will be registered in the training in all the islands", she confirms. "We have used contacts and social networks to reach people", she makes clear.

In Lanzarote, "there is fake news that gets to sink in", she says, with "somewhat uncertain news that has caused damage both on the island and in the Canary Islands" in recent years.

For that reason, we also think that the media are "a fundamental axis that we must take into account" since "we receive fake news through them", she clarifies.
