Canary Islands Tourism once again promotes the mobility of residents between islands during Easter Week to strengthen territorial balance. «Incentivizing internal tourism allows us to reduce the outflow of spending outside the archipelago, as well as contribute to the development of islands with less tourist activity», explains the Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León.

The campaign ‘The commandments of the Turisla’ is launched to promote inter-island travel by residents during this period, which generates 1.850 million euros in tourism revenue per year in activities linked to the sector, according to Impactur Canarias.

"With this initiative we focus on the way in which Canarian men and women enjoy their land, based on respect, care for the environment and the appreciation of what is their own, in addition to the fact that with these trips they boost the local economy and better distribute the sector's benefits throughout the territory," adds De León.

During holiday periods such as Easter, there is one of the times of the year with the highest mobility of residents between islands, with short-duration getaways mainly linked to leisure and the enjoyment of the natural environment. The latest available data on internal tourism corresponding to 2025 reflect that Canarian citizens made more than 170,000 trips for tourism during these dates' holidays, of which 60% occurred within the archipelago.

These travelers generated an average expenditure of 214 euros per trip, while the average stay for getaways was 3.1 days. Regarding the activities carried out, the enjoyment of the beach, visits to family or friends and excursions to natural areas stood out, which reflects a preference for experiences linked to the natural environment and outdoor leisure.

‘The commandments of the Turisla’

The campaign of the public company Tourism of the Canary Islands aimed at internal tourism during Easter evolves the concept of ‘Turisla’, presented last summer, giving continuity to this creative line focused on Canarians who love their islands and enjoy them by traveling.

This initiative converts the traditional ten commandments into a list of principles that reflect this different way of understanding Holy Week in the Canary Islands, linked to rest and the enjoyment of the archipelago.

Among these commandments are found ‘You shall love the Canary Islands above all things’, ‘You shall sanctify the festivals, the pilgrimages and the street parties’, ‘You shall honor your island, your land and your roots’ or ‘You shall not fall into the temptation of traveling far having a paradise right here’, among others.

The action unfolds through a multichannel media strategy with presence in digital media, outdoor, radio, print media and social networks, and also features a specific section on the destination's portal.
