The strengthening of the pound sterling experienced this summer against other currencies such as the euro, added to the decrease in the prices of essential products in Lanzarote during the last year, could encourage more families from the United Kingdom to travel to the island in the coming months.
Among the 16 star destinations of the tour operator TUI for family trips from the United Kingdom, Lanzarote is where prices fell the most compared to July last year, specifically 7.2%, which makes the island the seventh cheapest destination for eating, drinking and other essential products. Last year Lanzarote was in 14th place.
A report that the tour operator carries out annually, in collaboration with the British Post Office service, analyzes the prices of the products most commonly purchased by British families in Lanzarote, Ibiza, Mallorca and the Costa del Sol in Spain; Crete, Corfu, Paphos, Kos and Rhodes in Greece; Algarve and Madeira in Portugal; in addition to Malta, the Turkish city of Marmaris, the Italian region of Apulia, the Croatian city of Porec and the southern coast of Bulgaria.
The study analyzes the average prices in each destination to have coffee, beer, wine, water, soft drinks, acquire sunscreen and mosquito repellent as well as a full meal for children and two and three-course options for adults.
TUI calculates an average expenditure per family in Lanzarote for all those products of 154 pounds. In the report of the previous year the result on the island was 171 pounds, with which it occupied the 14th position.
The cheapest destination this year is the Bulgarian coast, which despite having increased its prices by 9.8% in the last year, each British family spends an average of 110 pounds on the aforementioned series of products.
Marmaris, in Turkey, occupies the second place after having increased its prices by 17.6% to 116 pounds. In third place, the Algarve, despite the fact that prices increased by 18.4% to 124 pounds.
Ibiza is the most expensive destination. Its prices increased by 14.7% to 229 pounds, while in Madeira they grew by 11.5% to 168 pounds and in Corfu by 11.3% to 167.
Among the 16 destinations, apart from Lanzarote, prices only fell in Mallorca (-1.2%), the Costa del Sol (-0.7%) and Crete (-0.2%).
