After having broken all its visitor and spending records in 2024, the tourism sector in the Canary Islands shows no signs of having reached its peak and has just closed the month and quarter with the highest influx in its history: it has never before received so many foreign tourists and never before has it billed so much.
According to data published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 1,556,532 tourists from other countries chose the Canary Islands in March to spend a few days on vacation.
The figure is 0.9% higher than in the same month of 2024 (from which the previous record came, 1.54 million), so its first quarter totals 4,361,596 foreign travelers, 2.1% more than a year earlier.
In terms of spending, there were also record figures, both monthly and quarterly, although this variable is influenced not only by the number of tourists, but also by inflation.
Specifically in March, visitors from other countries spent 2,428.62 million euros on their trips to the Canary Islands, 4.5% more, which totals 6,863.82 million in the first quarter, 5.46% more (355.51 million additional in three months).
