The ports of the province of Las Palmas stood out as the ports with the highest influx of cruises in Spain in the month of January. Between Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura they received 101,235 cruise passengers, 450% more than in the same month of 2021, according to data from the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APLP).
This exponential growth, going from 25 cruises in January 2021 to 93 this year, is clear evidence of the current recovery process of the tourism sector in the islands.
In addition, the province of Tenerife occupies the second position with 70,288 tourists on board, followed by the ports of Barcelona, Málaga and Cádiz. The data from the Canary Islands show the success of the new health protocols on board that were put into practice in the islands after the outbreak of the pandemic and that gave tourists a great sense of confidence.
The sector is in full growth, since 90% of the Port Authorities in the country have managed to improve the data from the previous year and half has managed to exceed the figures for 2019.
"It is a good start to the year and, if the forecasts of the Business Plans are met, we will once again achieve historical figures at the end of the year, even above what was achieved in 2019", says the president of Puertos del Estado, Álvaro Rodríguez Dapena.
