Tourism of the Canary Islands was present during the weekend at the Roadshow Destinazione Spagna, where the islands are promoted among professionals in the Italian sector to attract tourists who distribute their spending in the destination and who visit more than one island.

Last year 603,763 visitors from Italy arrived in the Canary Islands, of which only 15.2% contracted a package, compared to 48% of the average. In addition, this tourist enjoys a longer stay than the total, with 10.97 days compared to the average of 9.24, and a higher percentage contracts only accommodation, with 51% compared to 28.5% of the total.

Specifically to Lanzarote, nearly 100,000 Italian tourists arrived in 2022, almost triple the arrivals that were recorded ten years ago. This winter there are 15 weekly air connections between Lanzarote and Italy.

In this way, a higher percentage of Italian tourists spend in restaurants and cafeterias (71.6% compared to 66.4% of the average), in supermarkets (64.7% compared to 56% of the total) or in car rentals (48% compared to 32% of all visitors). In addition, they also invest more in tickets to the islands (7.4% compared to 5% of the average) because they also travel to two or more islands (12.1% compared to 7.4% of the total).

Because Italian tourists have a greater concern for exploring or getting to know the islands compared to other markets (29% compared to the market average of 20%), the strategy that Turismo de Canarias will follow will be to encourage high value-added products, prioritizing cultural, urban and active tourism, itineraries, shopping, luxury and food and wine. Regarding sun and beach tourism, emphasis will be placed on complementary products that enrich the experience on the coast.

Event in Venice and Gubbio

Roadshow Destinazione Spagna is held in the cities of Venice and Gubbio (Umbria) and is the only exclusively professional event in Italy that Turismo de Canarias attends in 2023.

It consists of two intensive events lasting a full day each, where the possibility of attracting travel agents from different regions, both in northern and central Italy, is opened.

It is intended that all exhibitors have the opportunity to interact with all previously accredited agents, approximately 100 between the two cities. Islas Canarias is present with a counter co-financed by 85% by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder).
