The airline Ryanair does not foresee interruptions in its operations during the summer months as a result of the strike called at the national level in its 'handling' subsidiary (ground services), Azul Handling, as a result of the minimum services established.
"Due to Spanish legislation on minimum services during the summer months, we do not foresee any interruption in our operations as a result of these strikes," the airline said in a statement sent to EFE.
It has reminded that the strike is called by UGT (second Azul union) and represents 20% of the workforce.
The airports affected by the strike at the national level are Madrid, Málaga, Alicante, Almería, Oviedo, Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Girona, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Menorca, Murcia, Palma, Reus, Santander, Santiago, Seville, Tenerife North and South, Valencia, Vigo, Vitoria and Zaragoza.
UGT accuses the company of boycotting the strike
On the other hand, UGT has accused the company in a press release of boycotting the right of employees to strike, due to actions such as considering all Ryanair flights within the time slots of the stoppages as "protected".
This implies that the minimum services that work in these time slots must obligatorily attend to all flights, unlike the unprotected ones, which would be attended only by the personnel that does not support the strike.
It has criticized that the company has put all flights as protected, something they can do given the percentage of minimums set in the time slots.
In addition, the union has accused the company of delivering the minimum services letter to employees "late and badly", "with barely 2 or 3 hours in advance with respect to the beginning of the shifts", and of making changes in the schedules to reinforce the operation in the slots with stoppages.
It has also accused it of not providing the strike committee with the list of personnel designated to cover the minimum services and of preventing access to the facilities to members of the strike committee.
The strike called in the Ryanair subsidiary of 'handling' has begun this Friday, in the middle of the August bank holiday, "without major incidents" except for some delays.
At the moment, no specific incidents have been provided, except for those at the Barcelona airport, where delays of "an average, for the moment, of 20 minutes" have been registered, according to Chema Pérez, secretary of the air sector of the union, informed EFE this Friday.
