The hotel business in Lanzarote has signed a historic August in terms of revenue.
The island's hotels grossed nearly 90 million euros in revenue in August. More than ever before in its history. Specifically, it was 89,426,195 euros throughout the month, representing an increase of 13.2% compared to the 78,996,027 euros registered in August of the previous year, according to official data from the ISTAC Tourist Accommodation Survey processed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote Data Center.
This increase in hotel turnover was supported by a notable increase in the average rate and a greater arrival of travelers, which made it possible to offset a slight drop in the occupancy rate per room.
Average rate over 180 euros and 1,200 more hires
The main driver behind the revenue growth was the increase in the average daily rate (ADR) in the hotel sector. In August 2026, staying in a hotel on the island cost an average of 182.26 euros per night, representing an increase of 10.56% compared to the 164.85 euros per night paid in August 2025.
The island's hotels registered a room occupancy level of 85.92%, a decrease of 2.86 percentage points compared to the 88.78% achieved in the same month of the previous year. However, this slight drop in occupancy did not prevent the total number of guests accommodated from reaching record figures.
In total, 201,559 travelers chose a hotel to stay in Lanzarote during the month of August, an increase of 6.55% over the 189,164 guests in August 2025 (+12,395 users). The total volume of overnight stays in hotels decreased by a slight 0.08% to 1,156,193 nights, due to a minimal reduction in the average length of stay.
The strength of the hotel sector was reflected in the island's labor market. During the month of August, Lanzarote's hotels directly employed 11,156 workers, an increase of 12.41% compared to the 9,924 employees counted in August 2025.
This increase represents the net creation of 1,232 jobs in the island's hotel workforce over the past year, consolidating the hotel segment as the backbone of tourism employment in Lanzarote.
