Puerto del Carmen receives recognition plaque as Intelligent Tourist Destination at Fitur

The DTI Network aims to promote sustainable tourism development while ensuring tourist satisfaction and improving the living conditions of the population.

The municipality of Tías and its tourist area, Puerto del Carmen, received the recognition plaque as an Intelligent Tourist Destination (DTI) at the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur), awarded by Segittur, linked to the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Government of Spain.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, received this distinction, which highlights the adhesion of the Tías City Council to the DTI Network, a project based on the promotion and encouragement of the digital transformation of tourist areas in the country. It also aims to promote sustainable tourism development while ensuring tourist satisfaction and improving the living conditions of the population.

José Juan Cruz also participated in the meeting of the members of the Association of Tourist Municipalities (Amt) of Spain and the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (Amtc) with the Minister of Tourism, Reyes Maroto, with whom he had the opportunity to chat about the tourism sector in the Canary Islands.

The first mayor of Tías contacted business people and tourism promoters at Fitur who could direct their projects towards Puerto del Carmen and met, among others, with representatives from Turismark, Yasmina Valiente and Heriberto Duque; in addition to meeting with Eva Hernández, researcher at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and coordinator of the Hermes International Congress, now the H International Communication Congress, which is held in the municipality of Tías.

In addition, among other meetings, the mayor of Tías attended the special meeting of the Cadena Ser in the Canary Islands held in the La Vela building of the BBVA city on sustainable tourism. This meeting was attended by Jacobo Anaya, Director of Energy and Sustainability of BBVA in Spain; Joan Trian Riu, CEO of Riu; Manuel Maqueda, Professor of Applied Circular Economy and Regenerative Economics at Harvard University; Javier Gándara, president of ALA; and Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. The event was closed by Reyes Maroto Illera, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Government of Spain.
