Canary Islands has risen as the only autonomous community with five locations in the ranking of places with the most accommodations with sustainable certification in Spain, according to the latest Booking.com Sustainable Travel report.
Playa del Inglés (5th place), Adeje (10th), Playa Blanca (12th), Corralejo (14th) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (17th) are among the 20 locations in the country where travelers can find a wider range of options committed to responsible and environmentally friendly practices.
The report data is based on information provided by more than 31,000 people from 34 countries and territories, which sheds light on the attitudes and perceptions of Spaniards towards sustainability in tourism.
86% percent of Spaniards consider it important to travel sustainably, but for 53% it is not the fundamental consideration when planning a trip. 30% even say they are tired of hearing about climate change all the time.
A third (33%) of Spaniards feel that the damage already caused is irreversible and that the travel decisions they make will not change that. 27% do not believe that climate change is as serious as it is made out to be.
Travelers' perception of who has the greatest capacity to address environmental challenges reveals that 51% of respondents consider governments to be the key players in counteracting the economic effects of tourism, while 46% firmly believe in the essential role of travel service providers in mitigating environmental factors.
