The sculpture "Juguete del Viento" by César Manrique has returned to the Plaza de La Puntilla, on Las Canteras beach, after an absence of almost ten years, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has reported.

The work was designed especially for the city and was installed in 1995 in the Plaza de La Puntilla, but its deterioration forced its dismantling in 2016.

The sculpture could not be repaired due to the high degree of deterioration from oxidation of the parts, which caused more than 60% of the bearings to no longer function correctly, which has necessitated the creation of a replica.

The remodeling includes the renewal of the footing and an anchoring plate within the reinforced concrete foundation to ensure grip.

The replica of the sculpture has followed the original design of the Lanzarote artist, and the César Manrique Foundation participated in its creation, indicated the Councilor for Strategic Development, Sustainability, Energy, Parks and Gardens and Primary Sector, Gemma Martínez Soliño, during its inauguration.

It is a work of 9.67 meters in height and 5.76 in width, composed of 52 moving parts, made of 316 stainless steel, a material more resistant to the sea's inclemencies than the one initially used.

The new work had a budget of 290,000 euros and the City Council will take care of its maintenance, the councilor assured.
