The port of Arrecife receives this Saturday, September 12, the call of the SH Diana, "one of the most exclusive luxury expedition cruises in the world", belonging to the shipping company Swan Hellenic, the Arrecife city council reported in a press release.
The arrival of this boutique cruise ship to the capital of Lanzarote, at the start of the new cruise season, "supports the growing positioning that the city of Arrecife is acquiring within the preferences of shipping companies with premium travelers".
This ship, built in Finland and incorporated into the Swan Hellenic fleet in 2023, is intended for exploration trips through some of the most striking and spectacular destinations on the planet, from Antarctica and the Arctic to Greenland, Iceland, the Norwegian fjords, and now in the waters of the Canary Islands, in the North Atlantic.
"In contrast to cruises with large lengths and high decks (floors), this ship offers a more exclusive experience, where passengers, upon disembarking, seek local gastronomy, autochthonous culture, and the pleasure of discovering new port cities," considers the Arrecife city council.
With capacity for 192 passengers and a high crew dedicated to the high-end tourism segment, the SH Diana positions itself among the premium trips sought by boutique cruises for their maritime circuits, such as this one that includes the port of Arrecife as a stopover.
The mayor of Arrecife and member of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Yonathan de León, has stressed that in the cruise season that is now beginning, the waters of the Canary Islands, and in particular "the port of Arrecife, being the closest Spanish port in the Canary Islands to the European continent, is strengthening".
The mayor emphasized that shipping companies dedicated to tourism continue to opt for Arrecife as a port of call, or base, in their circuits through the Canary Archipelago. So much so that it is the Spanish port in the Canary Islands that has grown the most in the accumulated total between January and last July.
The port of Arrecife has received between January and July of this year a total of 407,024 cruise passengers, which represents an accumulated increase since January of 16%. This official data, released by the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APL), to which the Arrecife port depends, reveals that the port of the capital of Lanzarote is the one that is growing the most in tourist arrivals by cruise among all the Spanish ports in the Canary Islands.
The ports of Arrecife (Naos, Cruise dock, and Los Mármoles) contribute more than 30% of the income of the entity of Ports of Las Palmas due to the activity of tourist cruises and are the ones that grow the most overall by disembarked tourists and by income associated with the presence of cruise companies in the waters of the Canary Islands.
