Canary Islands is Spain's favorite destination to book a tourist apartment in September, with more than 1.9 million overnight stays and an increase of 0.9% compared to the same month last year.
So much so that the tourist apartments in Lanzarote had the highest occupancy rate in Spain, with 87.1%, according to the latest survey of occupancy in non-hotel tourist accommodation.
Tías was the third municipality in the country with the highest number of overnight stays, only behind Arona and San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
On the other hand, overnight stays in tourist apartments nationally decreased by 2.4% in September compared to the same month of 2022. Those of residents decreased by 6.7% and those of non-residents by 0.3%.
The average stay in Spain also decreased by 2.3%, standing at 5.1 overnight stays per traveler. In September, 38.2% of the places offered by tourist apartments are occupied, 0.6% less than in the same month of 2022. The degree of occupancy per place on weekends stands at 40.9%, with a decrease of 3.0%.
The tourist apartments in this study are properties designed for regular rental for tourist use according to the INE, so it does not include vacation homes, which are of residential origin.
