The Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL) launches Lanzarote Experience Lab, a service of advice and support aimed at entrepreneurs and tourism companies from Lanzarote and La Graciosa who wish to develop a new idea, experience, service or business line linked to tourism.

The program, developed through the Comprehensive Service for Tourist Entrepreneurship Support (SIAET) and financed by the Department of Inclusive Training and Employment of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, starts with four free workshops, which will be held between October 21 and 29 and will focus on four specialized segments: longevity and well-being, sports tourism, women's travel, and slow luxury.

“It is not just about knowing the trends, but about turning that knowledge into proposals that can be put into practice,” points out the president of the FTL, Susana Pérez, who highlights the importance of continuing to advance in the specialization of the offer and in the diversification of markets.

The program proposes a work process in two sessions for each segment. The first will be dedicated to inspiration, with trends, international references, and generation of opportunities; and the second, to implementation, with the presentation and validation of a own tourism product proposal by each participant. “We want the priorities that the sector itself identified last June to now have a concrete response: products that can be developed and that connect with a growing demand in these segments,” explains Pérez.

From analysis to action

The choice of the four areas of work stems from the analysis of international trends and traveler behavior collected in the Coral Madison Trend Monitor, presented in Arrecife on June 17.

The presentation brought together about 50 hoteliers, institutional representatives, and professionals from the tourism ecosystem. After learning the results of the study, participants worked in groups to identify priorities, challenges, and strategic source markets for Lanzarote.

From that exercise, among other conclusions, the four areas that are now being transferred to the Lanzarote Experience Lab workshops emerged. “Each workshop is a real work process. The idea is that participants arrive at the second session with their own proposal and leave it with a worked-out and contrasted product sheet with the group,” explains Yolanda Perdomo, head of the program's methodology.

Perdomo is a strategic tourism advisor and has extensive experience in the development and positioning of products and destinations. During her time as director of Affiliated Members of the World Tourism Organization (now UN Tourism), between 2012 and 2018, she designed the organization's methodology for prototypes or pilot projects, which was subsequently applied and evolved in various international projects and destinations.

The initiative is part of the Lanzarote Tourism Federation's commitment to supporting local businesses in the specialization of their offerings and diversification of markets, in line with the island's tourism positioning. Furthermore, in a later phase, it is planned to expand the program with two workshops aimed at students from CIFP Zonzamas and the University School of Tourism of Lanzarote (EUTL).

The first four workshops will be held during the last week of October and will be organized into two sessions of two hours each:

•    October 21 and 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Longevity and well-being.
•    October 21 and 28, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Sports tourism.
•    October 22 and 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Women's travel.
•    October 22 and 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Slow luxury.
