Last July experienced a dizzying increase in tourism compared to last year, according to data from the Canarian Employment Institute, provided by the Lanzarote Data Center.
During the seventh month of the year, 307,714 travelers arrived on the island, 11.7% more than last year when there were 275,363 people.
Half of the increase is due to the recovery of peninsular tourism, from where 45,125 people arrived in July, 35.7% more than those who landed last year during the same month.
From the rest of the world, 262,589 people arrived in July, 17,000 more than those who arrived in July 2024.
Meanwhile, in the archipelago as a whole, 1.53 million tourists were recorded, according to the latest Statistics of Tourist Movements at Borders, prepared by the Canarian Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
Compared to the same month of 2024, there has been an increase of 9.6%, which is equivalent to 134,159 more tourists.
Of every 10 tourists who arrived in the Canary Islands, 8.4 came from abroad. This sector increased by 7.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. Residents in Spain grew by 22.9%.
Tenerife was the island that received the highest number of tourists with 611,841, which represents 4 out of every 10 tourists who arrived. It is followed by Gran Canaria (23.3%), Lanzarote (19.6%) and Fuerteventura (15.8%).
63% of the tourists who arrived in July stayed between 1 and 7 nights in the archipelago. On the contrary, 0.5% made stays of more than 31 days.
Nearly half of the tourists who arrived in the Canary Islands did so with a contracted tourist package, that is, with a service that includes at least transport and accommodation and that has an indivisible price. Specifically, 51.7% of tourists arrived with this contracted service.
