On the morning of this Wednesday, January 24, Lanzarote and La Graciosa officially inaugurated their exhibition space at 'Fitur', integrated into the Canary Islands stand. The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, the Minister of Tourism, Jessica de León, among other public and private representatives of the sector, supported the President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, in this new edition of the leading international fair for tourism professionals and receptive and issuing markets in Ibero-America.
“We are at an essential fair for Lanzarote and La Graciosa and their economic prosperity, and on this inaugural day we are advancing in the development of the main economic industry of the Canary Islands with an "absolute rejection" and "unanimous to the increase in air taxes and with a very clear message that I reiterate for Lanzarote: we don't want a single tourist more, but neither a tourist less, and we don't want to consume territory either.”
“What we want and will do from the Cabildo is to promote the modernization of infrastructures and an industry capable of generating employment and economy that benefits the families of both islands,” declared Oswaldo Betancort.
With that objective and with the data in hand, the President of the Cabildo and Councilor of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, has made it clear what the milestones to be achieved in tourism are: to "increase" the spending of tourists at the destination and to look for a "differentiated" client in the same issuing countries. As an example, the agreement with the company 'British Airways' to increase from 7 to 10 weekly flights and obtain a much greater profitability without ceasing to explore new strategic markets, such as Japan or the USA.
“Also reinforce, promote, and continue building the tourism model that has differentiated us from the rest of the world, which is the sports tourism model, jointly and in parallel with the gastronomic, activity and sensation tourism model,” added the President and Councilor of Tourism of Lanzarote.
“I believe that Lanzarote is at a historic moment of change of course guided jointly by the public and private sectors, which I congratulate for the enormous effort they make to be present in Madrid with the deployment that this entails,” he concluded.
The incessant working day will continue this afternoon with the presentation of the 'Cicerone' project, and on Thursday, January 25, at 12.30 pm with the presentation at the Canary Islands stand of the tourism development and innovation strategy in this matter by the president, Oswaldo Betancort, and the CEO of Turismo de Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández.
