Lanzarote airport received more than 7 million passengers in 2022

The number of arrivals at César Manrique in December was 13% higher than that recorded in the same month of 2019

In 2022, Lanzarote airport recorded a total of 7,350,451 tourist arrivals, which represents an increase of 0.8% compared to the data of 2019, as reported by Aena. During the month of December, the César Manrique airport received 649,718 people, which meant 13.3% more travelers than during the same month of 2019.

The airports of the Canary Islands as a whole closed 2022 with 43,473,393 passengers, which represents a recovery of 96.5% of traffic compared to the year 2019. Also in the overall calculation of the archipelago, December was a month of growth in the number of arrivals, there were 7% more than in the same month of 2019, registering more than 4 million travelers.

Of the total number of travelers registered in 2022, 17,882,321 traveled on domestic flights, which represents a recovery of 98.3% of traffic compared to 2019, and 25,163,590 did so on international routes, with a recovery of 94.8%.

Throughout the year, the number of aircraft movements was 406,695, 1% less than in 2019; and 31,197 tons of goods were transported, 16.2% less than in the aforementioned year 2019. Aena reported that this decrease is due to the fact that "a very important part of the goods that are usually transported in cargo planes, has been transferred in commercial passenger planes".

 

Traffic in the other airports of the Canary Islands

The airport of Gran Canaria registered the highest number of passengers of the Canary Islands airports in 2022 with 12,417,699, which represents a recovery of 93.6% compared to the year 2019. It was followed by the Airport of Tenerife South, with 10,821,703 passengers, which translates into a recovery of traffic of 96.9% over 2019.

For its part, the airport of Fuerteventura, with 5,641,500 total travelers, slightly increased its traffic with a growth of 0.1%; the airport of Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 5,566,243 travelers, experienced a decrease of 4.7%; the airport of La Palma, with 1,306,947 arrivals, accounts for 11.9% less; the traffic of the airport of El Hierro, with 273,687 passengers increases by 1.8%; and finally the Airport of La Gomera, with 95,163 passengers experienced a growth of 22.7%.

Regarding the number of total operations, the Canary Islands airport that registered the highest number of movements in 2022 was that of Gran Canaria with 119,530 (-5.5%), followed by Tenerife South with 75,605 operations (+7.6%), and the Airport of Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 68,958 (-8.5%).
