During the month of September, 221,599 international passenger arrivals were recorded, representing a modest decrease of 1.06% compared to the 223,976 arrivals registered in the same month of the previous year, with a negative difference of 2,377 travelers, according to figures provided by the Lanzarote Data Center.
This slight global decline is marked by adjustments in several of the main issuing markets in Western Europe, although cushioned by notable growth in Southern and Central Europe.
Among the large traffic volumes, the United Kingdom remained at the forefront as the primary issuing market with 135,013 passengers, representing a decrease of 1.48% compared to the 137,039 from the same period last year (-2,026 passengers).
Ireland followed in second place with 28,837 arrivals, registering a decrease of 2.83% compared to the 29,678 from a year ago (-841 travelers). For its part, Germany occupied third place, accumulating 14,323 passengers, reducing its figures by 2.05% compared to the 14,623 accumulated in September of the previous year (-300 passengers).
In contrast to the declines from traditional issuers, France and Italy recorded very significant growth year-on-year. The French market reached 14,254 passengers, increasing its figure by 7.29% compared to the 13,286 travelers from the previous year (+968 passengers).
Even more pronounced was the rebound in Italy, which went from 5,305 to 7,024 passengers, representing an increase of 32.40% (+1,719 travelers) and positioning itself as the strongest relative increase among the main nationalities.
In the rest of the issuing markets in Central and Northern Europe, the trend was predominantly mixed with moderate variations. The Netherlands and Belgium experienced small year-on-year decreases, while Switzerland and Poland showed positive developments.
For their part, countries with a smaller volume of travelers, such as Luxembourg, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Portugal, and Norway, registered isolated adjustments or testimonial variations that barely altered the overall monthly figures.
