The president of CEOE Tenerife, Pedro Alfonso, stated this Monday that the tourist moratorium is not a viable solution and stressed the importance of not interrupting the market trend to avoid losing customers and essential services.
Pedro Alfonso, in a statement, said that the current tourist capacity is sufficient and that the market will regulate itself to meet the demand, so "imposing limitations is not the solution."
Instead of imposing a moratorium, he advocated for measures that sustainably regulate the growth of all economic sectors, including tourism, to ensure balanced and sustainable development over time, and stressed that demonizing this sector is not productive, as it is fundamental to the Canary Islands' economy.
According to the president of the CEOE, many owners are reluctant to rent due to concerns about defaults or damage to properties, which affects the supply of available housing.
Therefore, he stressed the importance of implementing measures that promote legal certainty and streamline processes to encourage investment in the real estate sector and offer more rental options to the population.
