Canarias was the third autonomous community with the highest occupancy in short-stay tourist accommodations in 2025, with 1,646,949, in a year in which Spain once again broke a record with 12,841,549 apartments, rural houses, and tourist-use dwellings occupied, 5.2% more than the previous year and almost double that of 2018.
According to the statistics published this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), in the first three months of 2026 the number of occupied tourist accommodations rose to 925,748, representing an increase of 7.1% compared to the same period last year.
Non-residents in Spain continue to surpass nationals when occupying these accommodations, with 7,139,321 foreigners registered last year compared to 5,702,228 nationals.
The statistics also show that in 2025, overnight stays in this type of accommodation reached a historic high of 59,567,834, 7.9% more than in 2024.
Furthermore, the average stay was 4.6 nights, which practically equals the 4.8 registered in 2022, during the post-pandemic tourism boom.
Again, non-residents in Spain surpass residents in length of stay, with an average of 5.5 overnight stays compared to 3.5 for nationals.
By autonomous communities, Andalusia accounted for 28.4% of the total occupied tourist accommodations in Spain in 2025, with 3,651,851, followed by Catalonia, with 1,709,182, Canarias (1,646,949), Valencian Community (1,589,693), and Community of Madrid (1,304,364).
