The Canary Islands are the Spanish destination with the greatest tourism vulnerability to the war in Ukraine, due to their greater dependence on long-distance flights, according to the Hosteltur tourism portal.
Despite the optimistic forecasts for the archipelago for the summer, the start of the war will force a rapid update of these, as a change in trend is beginning to be observed in air demand forecasts from the main issuing markets in Europe.
The Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, explained in a parliamentary appearance that among the main risks are the possible drop in confidence of European consumers and the worsening of the mood due to the geopolitical situation, more accentuated in the countries close to the conflict.
Other risks are the possible worsening of inflation, which was already at a 25-year high, a foreseeable rise in interest rates that could lead to economic stagnation and oil costs that make air tickets more expensive and could lead airlines to discard less profitable connections.
